I stayed here in August, a relatively calm time in Paris, and paid around 200 euros a night. During peak times, the rates are higher. But it's worth every euro.

You walk through a gate (there's a parking garage next door, how convenient is that?!). Then: old cobblestones beneath your feet, and a sprawling, lush courtyard ahead that defies outside expectations. In the city’s heart, yet serene. Verdant. A place where Paris pauses.
The hotel exudes the atmosphere of a pension de famille, and that's exactly fitting. Toile de Jouy wallpaper, weathered wooden furniture, bronze wall lamps that have withstood the test of time. It looks as if untouched for years. Charming, yet absolutely not outdated. The staff is incredibly friendly. You truly feel at home here.
The Rooms: Just Big Enough
The 51 rooms vary between 10 and 25 square meters. My room was on the ground floor, in the same building where breakfast is served. Not large, but ample. Comfortable, quiet, and exactly what you need after a day in Paris. If you desire space, opt for a larger room. If you’re just looking to sleep and explore the city, the smaller ones are more than sufficient.
The Courtyard: The True Reason to Book Here
The courtyard is the heart of the hotel. Chairs, trees, tranquility. You sit sheltered, surrounded by greenery, while the city buzzes outside. For those who want to unwind after a long day without heading to a bar: this is the spot. I didn’t have breakfast in the hotel but walked every morning to Place de la Contrescarpe for a terrace coffee before heading to Rue Mouffetard, a street teeming with market stalls, cheese, bread, and everything a foodie loves. All just a five-minute walk away.

For those wanting to feel Paris without staying in an anonymous hotel. For those preferring ambiance over square meters. For those who want the Latin Quarter as a base and enjoy morning coffee on a terrace instead of at a breakfast buffet. And if you’re considering August: the city is calmer than you’d expect, the prices are reasonable, and Hotel des Grandes Écoles Paris is at its finest. I’d book again tomorrow.
